The Mermaid’s Tavern

The Mermaid’s Tavern is a monthly online folk club — first Sundays, 2 to 4 Eastern. Singers from across North America, the UK, Europe, and sometimes Australia gather to sing together: chanteys, ballads, seasonal songs, the occasional deep-cut surprise. It is participatory, not performance–even our special research concerts engage participants in questions and discussion. You can just listen if you want to, and we always invite new singers.

The Tavern has been meeting since 2020. In that time we have grown a community of singers who take the tradition seriously and enjoy each other’s company — from session veterans to people who learned their first chantey last year. There is no required level of experience, no gatekeeping about what counts as folk. If you love old songs and want to be in a room where other people love them too, you belong here.
